Your Pigeon Island, Nilaveli Beach, Sri Lanka Adventure

Why people got to be this way?! 😭 This is 📍 PIGEON ISLAND 📍 just off Nilaveli Beach on Sri Lanka’s east coast and it’s *incredible* for snorkelling (or diving but that’s not for me 😅) I saw blacktip reef sharks just cruising on by, turtles living their best life, and so many cool (and weird) fish …and then there’s always that one tourist who forgets the number 1 snorkelling rule: LOOK, DON’T TOUCH! 🙅🏼‍♂️ I turned the audio off but in the first clip, I literally shout ‘whadafuqqq’ into my snorkel 🫣 It’s one of the few underwater national parks in Sri Lanka so there’s plenty of info telling people not to touch the animals, and there’s areas roped off to allow the coral to heal and thrive… but people kept swimming through them too It’s so frustrating when they’re doing the work to protect the marine life and people just ignore it 😤 Rant aside, if you’re looking for a stunning beach and clear turquoise water, Pigeon Island needs to be on your Sri Lanka itinerary I booked through @divinguru.nilaveli who we also went dolphin watching with (we posted about it earlier this week 😍) 👉🏼 Would you rather swim with turtles or sharks? 🐢🦈 —— 👋🏼 We’re Matt & Katie, bougie backpackers giving you the confidence to long-term travel in Asia by sharing PRACTICAL tips and epic experiences like this #srilankatrip #visitsrilanka #pigeonisland #responsibletravel #turtles #marineconservation #snorkelling
